About the Founders of I WILL Organization
On July 3, 2004 my husband Doug and I had a beautiful baby girl named Sophie. Shortly after she was born she had her first apnea spell and seizure. After a 48 hour evaluation at our local hospital, Sophie was transported to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
The first 2.5 years of Sophie's new life were with many admissions to DHMC along with countless tests and procedures to try and help her. She today is still having seizures, developmentally delayed, visually impaired and has severe low muscle tone.
Thanks to the Neurology team at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, they were able to find a diagnosis for Sophie. She has Complex 1 & 5 Mitochondrial Disease.
Thankfully we have been blessed with a strong family and friendship network not to mention incredible doctors, medical insurance and New Hampshire funded early intervention.
We truly feel that everything happens for a reason and for our family to be faced with this challenge, we are meant to do something positive with this.
We began I WILL Organization from our home office and money from savings to try and make a difference in the lives of children affected with Mitochondrial Disease.
Our focus is to raise money for research and to support the stellar medical center available to us all here in New Hampshire. Children's Hospital at Dartmouth is already state of the art, but we need to help them in finding a cause and a cure for our children!!
Please help us in giving children and families the empowering words of I WILL!
We will be hosting the:
I WILL Organization's 5K Fun Run Walk for Mitochondrial Disease Research. This memorable event will take place on Saturday October 13, 2007 in Kensington, NH.
This is only the beginning of our mission. We have many more ideas of helping children and families. It is because of you that we are able to achieve these dreams.
Thank you for your interest in I WILL.
